pour a molitov cocktail and toast to the system

Sun Dec 18, 2005, 3:10 PM
well, i'm sure most of you know what happened to Tookie Williams. for those that don't, i'll keep that part short, as reporting on him isn't realy the purpouse of this. he was a co-founder of the Crips. he was convicted of killing 4 people (though the accuracy of this conviction is desputed) and sentenced to death. on death row, he made a complete turn around. he wrote several books on non-violent ways of dealing with conflict, and encouraging kids to stay away from gangs. he made more of a positive impact on the world from behind bars than most people make in their whole lives. partialy from the impact of his books, gang violence has been at an all time low. Tookie was nominated for 5 Nobel peace prizes, winning one

and still he was executed. this illustrates the point i have been trying to make for years. that the state is a heartless machine that should be dismantled if we as a people are to ever interact with each other in a healthy, non-violent way. many people say that calling the police is a responsible, non-violent way of dealing with problems. is calling the capitalist watchdogs realy non-violent? i mean, the only reason people listen to them is because they have guns. if you resist, they will shoot you. how the fuck is that non-violent? people need to learn to interact with each other in healthy, equal relationships, and learn to reach agreements in TRUELY non-violent ways. that is, find a solution that works for all parties involved. and when that's impossible, simply part ways. calling men with guns to force someone to do what you want is NOT non-violent. it's simply state violence, which is worse, as it has no concious. if a cop ends up shooting somebody, they simply justify it by saying that the person wouldn't cooperate, and resisted. the truth is that the pigs had no right to force the person to cooperate to begin with. but i digress. Tookie Williams perfectly shows why we need to do away with this system, or any system which places some in positions of authority over others. and for God's sake, let's leave the death penalty behind along with the Rack, thumb clamps, iron maidens, and all other forms of crude, mideval punishment. the state has proven time and time again that it has no concious and thus should have no jurisdiction over human life (wars, executions, invasions, etc.). realy, when you think about it, who is better to make decisions over your life than you? and to paraphrase a Crimethinc. zine i read: If you don't trust the people, you sure as hell can't trust the police. realy, they're just people, but put in power over you. even in cases where things are resorted to violence, i'd rather deal with the violence and stupidity of people as my equals, without a bullshit system giving them power over me, than face the inhuman, insensitive violence and stupidity of a government. so would anarchy work? i think so. but even if we dont know, we do know that hierchy DOESNT work, so why not try it?
